Roofing Schools: A Labor of Love

Roofing schools isn't just a job for United Materials—it's a labor of love. From modern educational facilities to historic landmarks, we've roofed various schools across Colorado. In this blog post, we'll explore the unique challenges and rewards of these projects, along with some memorable experiences along the way.

Timing is Everything

One key consideration when roofing schools is timing. We typically schedule these projects during summer when classes are not in session to minimize disruption to students and staff. This allows us to complete the work efficiently while ensuring an undisturbed learning environment.

Preserving Aesthetics and Tradition

When roofing historic schools, preserving aesthetics, building codes, and tradition is paramount. We often collaborate with designers or architects to ensure that the roofing materials and design elements seamlessly integrate with the school's architecture. This attention to detail ensures the school maintains its historic charm while receiving much-needed updates.

Navigating Roof Decks and Unique Features

Schools often present unique challenges like multiple roof decks and architectural features. Take, for example, East High School, a historic landmark in Denver. This iconic school boasts over 27 roof decks and a cupola housing a one-ton bell—a testament to its rich history. Despite the project's complexity, our team tackled the challenge with precision and care, ensuring that every aspect of the roof was expertly crafted.

A Special Connection

East High School holds a special place in our hearts, as it's not just another project—it's a part of our history. The original founder of United Materials graduated from East High School, making it a project close to home. Over the last 35 years, we've had the honor of working on the school's roof four times, each time reinforcing our commitment to quality craftsmanship and preservation.

Roofing schools is more than just a job for United Materials—it's a testament to our dedication to quality, craftsmanship, and community. From preserving historic landmarks to ensuring that modern educational facilities are equipped with reliable roofing systems, we take pride in every project we undertake. As we continue our journey, we look forward to roofing more schools and leaving a lasting impact on the communities we serve.
